5 WORST THINGS A TEACHER MAY TELL TO HIS STUDENTS

It is, to my belief, that teachers are the most powerful beings, simply because they have the power to MAKE or UNMAKE students. It is in their hands that the dream of every student will be WOVEN or SHATTERED.

The following are the 5 WORST THINGS A TEACHER MAY TELL HIS STUDENTS:

1. I BET YOU MY SALARY. YOU WILL NEVER GET ANYWHERE WITH THAT KIND OF ANSWER!
This is the worst thing to tell your students. Be careful. You might eat your words someday. Who knows, your student will be coming back at you to collect what you have gambled.

2. I GET PAID WHETHER YOU LISTEN TO ME OR NOT.
Yes, you'll get paid. But would it be worth it? You are working for the dough and this shows your lack of commitment to your job. You do not really care if your students learn or not. You are just there for the money.

3. WHY CAN'T YOU DO THIS? THE OTHER CLASS DID THIS WELL.
Avoid making comparisons. Each student is unique.

4. I'M SORRY CLASS BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I AM DOING.
What are you? A moron? Every teacher must not enter the classroom unprepared less you risk appearing a fool.

5. I KNOW THIS IS A STUPID TOPIC BUT LET'S GET ON WITH IT.
It will not be in the curriculum if it's not important.

IMPERSONAL BEINGS- That's what we become if we utter these words. We are no longer teachers but we are BREAKERS of trust and WRECKERS of dreams.

HOW STUDENTS SHOULD SHARPEN THEIR AXE

"SHARPEN YOUR AX! This metaphor apparently have its root from the Bible. In Ecclesiastes 10:10,  it says " If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success."

THERE IS A STORY ABOUT A MAN WHO ALWAYS SHARPEN HIS AX, WATCH THIS VIDEO.

When we go about the monotony of life, we neglect to keep equipping ourselves. We go through our daily tasks aimlessly since we keep doing the same things anyway. If you are a student, you would probably wake up, fix yourself, go to school, chat with your classmates, jot a few notes, go home, sleep. Then the following day, you would go through same routine. But the story in the video, says that we should not live like that. Life is a learning curve. It is a continuous process of learning, relearning and unlearning. We should not stop setting goals and improving the tools that we need to go through our lives. There are a lot of things to learn. And once we stop learning, we die.

As students, you are to continually sharpen your AX.  How do you do this?

1. KEEP SETTING GOALS- Once you succeed in one goal, set another. Continue learning new skills. Continue exploring new hobbies. I like learning new things.

2. EXPAND YOUR VOCABULARY- There are about 476, 000 words listed in the Meriam Webster Online in the Third New International Dictionary. Memorize the longest word. When I was in my high school years, I remember my grandpa letting me memorize the longest word "PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCONIOSIS." It has 45 letters and it is the longest word in a major dictionary.

3. MASTER A NEW SKILL- We live in a fast- moving and a competitive world where it becomes a necessity to continually improve ourselves. Check  the television shows and the Internet, they feature a wide range of skills from cooking, interior design, fashion design etc.

4. LEARN BY TRIAL AND ERROR- Learn new things and when it does not suit you, try another or find another way to do it. Remember even THOMAS ALVA EDISON made about 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb.

5. DON'T MISS SCHOOL- Don't miss classes at school. Learn all you can while at school. The school may not sufficiently give you what you need but there are a lot of sources nowadays like the Internet. Most of my computer skills are self- taught. I explore on the Internet.

6. CHOOSE YOUR COMPANY- When you want to wise, go with the wise. When you want to become a fool, hang out with the fools. Remeber, BAD COMPANY CORRUPTS but GOOD COMPANY helps in making yourself better.

7. BE INFORMED- Watch the trends. Learn from good TV Shows, from the World- Wide- Web, from experienced people.

8. MORE IMPORTANTLY, KNOW THYSELF- Know your limits.Know how far you could go. Assess your skills. What areas do you need to improve on. Manage your priorities. Believe!!!!

LEARN, BELIEVE, ACHIEVE, SURVIVE!!! Let this be your battlecry.^^

TEACHER'S SURVIVAL GUIDE

Teaching is a complex undertaking. It differs from many professions in the multitude and variety of daily tasks that teachers must accomplish. As a teacher, you not only have to master the art of interacting effectively with others at all times but also face an extensive array of other responsibilities. With such responsibilities, it is imperative to equip ourselves with a lot of preparation, a pack of  common sense and god-zillion of humor.

Here is a poem specially made for teachers  to aid them survive in the classroom for the school year round.

From classroom management, lesson preparation, lesson delivery, counseling to testing and a lot more. Not to mention the challenge of dealing with different educational needs, socio-economic background and unique personality of every learner. These entail a helluva preparation!!!

So let's start with MIND- SETTING. Vacation days are about to end and whether we like it or not we are about to start another school year. us of WHO WE ARE. WE ARE TEACHERS.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND LOVE

L-O-V-E!!!!

Just what exactly is happening in our brain when our love meter runs?

How do we know that we love someone?

Psychologists made a study and came up with this data:

  • It takes between 90 seconds and 4 minutes to decide if you fancy someone.
  • Research has shown this has little to do with what is said, rather                     -55% is through body language               -38% is the tone and speed of their voice   -7% is through what they say

THE THREE STAGES OF LOVE

Stage 1: Lust
This is the first stage of love and is driven by the sex hormones testosterone and estrogen – in both men and women.

Stage 2: Attraction
This is the amazing time when you are truly love-struck and can think of little else. Scientists think that three main neurotransmitters are involved in this stage; adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin.

Adrenaline
The initial stages of falling for someone activates your stress response, increasing your blood levels of adrenalin and cortisol. This has the charming effect that when you unexpectedly bump into your new love, you start to sweat, your heart races and your mouth goes dry.

Dopamine
Helen Fisher asked newly ‘love struck’ couples to have their brains   examined and discovered they have high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine. This chemical stimulates ‘desire and reward’ by triggering an   intense rush of pleasure. It has the same effect on the brain as taking cocaine!

Fisher suggests “couples often show the signs of surging dopamine: increased energy, less need for sleep or food, focused attention and   exquisite delight in smallest details of this novel relationship."

Serotonin
And finally, serotonin. One of love's most important chemicals that may explain why when you’re falling in love, your new lover keeps popping into your thoughts

Does love change the way you think?
A landmark experiment in Pisa, Italy showed that early love (the attraction phase) really changes the way you think.

Dr Donatella Marazziti, a psychiatrist at the University of Pisa advertised for twenty couples who'd been madly in love for less than six months. She wanted to see if the brain mechanisms that cause you to constantly think about your lover, were related to the brain mechanisms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

By analysing blood samples from the lovers, Dr Marazitti discovered that serotonin levels of new lovers were equivalent to the low serotonin levels of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder patients.

Stage 3: Attachment
Attachment is the bond that keeps couples together long enough for them to have and raise children. Scientists think there might be two major hormones involved in this feeling of attachment; oxytocin and vasopressin.

Oxytocin - The cuddle hormone

Oxytocin is a powerful hormone which deepens the feelings of attachment and makes couples feel much closer to one another after they have had sex. Oxytocin also seems to help cement the strong bond between mum and baby and is released during childbirth. It is also responsible for a mum’s breast automatically releasing milk at the mere sight or sound of her young baby.

Vasopressin
Vasopressin (also called anti-diuretic hormone) works with your kidneys to control thirst. It is also known as "the monogamy chemical." Researchers have found that suppression of vasoppressin can cause males to abandon their love nest and seek new mates.

There you have it. I never thought love would really have chemistry behind it!
