HOW STUDENTS SHOULD SHARPEN THEIR AXE

"SHARPEN YOUR AX! This metaphor apparently have its root from the Bible. In Ecclesiastes 10:10,  it says " If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success."

THERE IS A STORY ABOUT A MAN WHO ALWAYS SHARPEN HIS AX, WATCH THIS VIDEO.

When we go about the monotony of life, we neglect to keep equipping ourselves. We go through our daily tasks aimlessly since we keep doing the same things anyway. If you are a student, you would probably wake up, fix yourself, go to school, chat with your classmates, jot a few notes, go home, sleep. Then the following day, you would go through same routine. But the story in the video, says that we should not live like that. Life is a learning curve. It is a continuous process of learning, relearning and unlearning. We should not stop setting goals and improving the tools that we need to go through our lives. There are a lot of things to learn. And once we stop learning, we die.

As students, you are to continually sharpen your AX.  How do you do this?

1. KEEP SETTING GOALS- Once you succeed in one goal, set another. Continue learning new skills. Continue exploring new hobbies. I like learning new things.

2. EXPAND YOUR VOCABULARY- There are about 476, 000 words listed in the Meriam Webster Online in the Third New International Dictionary. Memorize the longest word. When I was in my high school years, I remember my grandpa letting me memorize the longest word "PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCONIOSIS." It has 45 letters and it is the longest word in a major dictionary.

3. MASTER A NEW SKILL- We live in a fast- moving and a competitive world where it becomes a necessity to continually improve ourselves. Check  the television shows and the Internet, they feature a wide range of skills from cooking, interior design, fashion design etc.

4. LEARN BY TRIAL AND ERROR- Learn new things and when it does not suit you, try another or find another way to do it. Remember even THOMAS ALVA EDISON made about 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb.

5. DON'T MISS SCHOOL- Don't miss classes at school. Learn all you can while at school. The school may not sufficiently give you what you need but there are a lot of sources nowadays like the Internet. Most of my computer skills are self- taught. I explore on the Internet.

6. CHOOSE YOUR COMPANY- When you want to wise, go with the wise. When you want to become a fool, hang out with the fools. Remeber, BAD COMPANY CORRUPTS but GOOD COMPANY helps in making yourself better.

7. BE INFORMED- Watch the trends. Learn from good TV Shows, from the World- Wide- Web, from experienced people.

8. MORE IMPORTANTLY, KNOW THYSELF- Know your limits.Know how far you could go. Assess your skills. What areas do you need to improve on. Manage your priorities. Believe!!!!

LEARN, BELIEVE, ACHIEVE, SURVIVE!!! Let this be your battlecry.^^
